# Bifrost and vTokens

Understand how Bifrost liquid staking turns supported PoS assets into usable vTokens.

### What is Bifrost?

Bifrost is a **liquid-staking app-chain** for all blockchains. It uses **decentralized cross-chain interoperability** to help users earn staking rewards and DeFi yields with flexibility, liquidity, and high security across multiple chains.

Bifrost will become AOZO's dedicated liquid-staking sub-brand. This transition does not change the attribution of Bifrost protocol mechanisms, deployments, or network-specific risks.

### What are vTokens?

vTokens are liquid-staking assets. Bifrost issues them for pledged assets during their bonding period. They can circulate through DEXs, pools, protocols, and chains.

Bifrost addresses three PoS ecosystem challenges:

* The balance between **staking rewards** and **DeFi yields**.
* The balance between **staking or circulating tokens** and PoS-chain **security**.
* **Staking rewards** in cross-chain scenarios.

The vToken solution converts PoS tokens into liquid-staking voucher tokens. Users retain staking liquidity and receive staking rewards across chains.

### Why Bifrost?

{% endhint %}

#### Liquid staking

Minting vTokens on Bifrost means staking through Bifrost. You can control underlying staking assets during the locked period.

#### Automatic staking management

Bifrost staking protocols run under Bifrost pallets. They earn staking rewards every era without centralized risks.

#### Reduced Unstaking Period

Bifrost SLP can support early redemption. It matches real-time staking quantity with redemption quantity through a protocol-level queue.

#### Extra staking returns and DeFi yields

Bifrost offers delegated staking through selected validators. Holding vTokens can provide access to DeFi yield scenarios.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the following URL with the `ask` and `goal` query parameters:

```
GET https://docs.aozo.io/stake/getting-started/bifrost-and-vtokens.md?ask=<question>&goal=<user_goal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is what the user is ultimately trying to achieve, the reason they need the answer. Sharing it helps GitBook give you a better, more relevant answer. A goal is most helpful when it describes the outcome the user wants rather than restating the question. For example, with `ask=how do I create an API token`, a goal like `automate deployments from our CI pipeline` lets GitBook tailor the answer to that use case.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
